New Safety Technology Can Save Lives on the Road
The Moving Forward Act is an initiative that invests in safe trucking solutions designed to reduce crashes, prevent injury, and ultimately save truckers’ and motorists’ lives. These initiatives include technology aids like automatic braking and underride guards on the side of trucks. The new law successfully passed in part because of the dedicated advocacy of truck crash victims and surviving family members.
Changes like these are part of a larger movement toward improving safety in the trucking industry. In 2017, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration required new commercial trucks to include electronic stability control systems. These systems alert drivers when there’s a potential crash situation on the road. According to the agency, these mandates could prevent at least 1,700 crashes every year.

The company has vocally backed the mandates and plans to implement collision avoidance systems and automatic emergency braking as standard equipment 2022.
